Why Emotional Freedom Technique Should Become a Part of Your Self-Care

Emotional Freedom Technique aka tapping is a treatment method used to reduce anxiety, lower stress, and help fight depression and many other issues. It works by gently tapping on body’s acupressure points located along Meridian channels.

Tapping is an accessible technique

It can be facilitated by an experienced practitioner. However, this method can also be self-administered as a part of your selfcare routine. Tapping can be done anywhere, at any time of the day, and for the amount of time you feel is needed.

How does tapping work?

EFT works by restoring the balance of energy to resolve emotional and physical conditions. It helps reduce negative emotions by sending signals to the parts of the brain that control stress. Tapping also helps release limiting believes, and replace them by new, positive ones. This is an empowering practice which allows you to exit a painful state.

How to do tapping?

  1. Choose an issue you would like to address.
  2. Rate the intensity of your issue on a scale of 1 – 10.
  3. Gently tap on the below acupressure points by using your index and middle fingers:
    1. Karate chop (outer edge of your palm)- KC
    1. Crown/top of the head- TH
    1. Right above eyebrow- EB
    1. To the side of the eye- SE
    1. Under the eye- UE
    1. Under the nose- UN
    1. Between the lip and chin- Ch
    1. Under the beginning part of your collarbone- CB
    1. Under the arm (about 4 inches below the armpit)- UA
  4. Start by tapping on the KC point, while reciting your statement, which can be a phrase consisting of your “pain point” and self-acceptance, an affirmation, or something you would like to manifest. Then, move through the remaining points by tapping 5 – 7 times on each while reciting your phrase.
  5. At the end of your practice, reevaluate the intensity on the scale from 1 – 10.

The bottom line.

In a nutshell, tapping is an accessible technique that can be used to process any negative states you are experiencing or feelings you are holding on to. Since even 5 minutes of tapping has been shown to bring about positive changes, it is ease to fit into anyone’s schedule.
